college students are getting a general financial aid, state and university aid remains virtually unchanged. the national center for education statistics found 42 percent of students receive federal grants, that's up 28% from four years ago. percent received federal loans and increase of 5%. meanwhile, 15 percent got state grants and 20% received college grants reconfigures that are nearly unchanged since the 20072008 school year. this is only part of the picture. the price of housing and food is even higher than tuition for in-state students at public universities. >>james: the latest data on car loans shows of borrowers have bigger loans and are managing to make the payments. credit reporting agency trans union's average all along balances have increased amid a strong market for cars and trucks this year. it's up 4.5% year over year and 13% increase from the first quarter. the

new this morning. a shooting at a san jose restaurant kills one person and injures two others. it happened at 10:00 last night in the 28-hundred block of alum rock avenue. all the victims were taken to the hospital -- with one of them dying this morning. no suspects have been identified. this is san jose's 31st homicide of the year. new this morning. one man is dead and two others are injured after they were shot at a vietnamese restaurant. two people are in the hospital this morning following a shooting in san francisco's visitacion valley. it happened around 5:00 yesterday evening at the corner of sunnydale avenue and bayshore boulevard.

a man and a woman were shot -- both were taken to san francisco general hospital. police say the man's injuries are considered life-threatening. as for a suspect. police don't have much to go on. witnesses saw a man in his early 20s driving away in a burgundy sedan. investigators confirm the cause of the deadly limousine fire on the san mateo bridge last may was *accidental. c-h-p and fire department officials say the limo's rear suspension failed. which allowed the drive shaft under the car to come into contact with the floor panel. that caused the carpet to catch fire. which ultimately the district attorney says surveillance video taken the day of the accident shows the limo appeared to be in good condition before the accident.

limousine fire on the san mateo bridge back in may, was accidental. at a press conference yesterday c-h-p and the fire department officials said there was a failure in the rear suspension system which enabled the drive shaft pipe under the car to come into contact with the floor panel.
